Racer Dan Hegarty Killed in Macau Grand Prix Crash
British racer Dan Hegarty has died following a high side crash during the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix road race. The 31-year-old from Nottingham, England, leaves behind his partner Lucy Draycott and two sons.
Hegarty was thrown into the barriers in a corner known as Fisherman’s Bend on the sixth lap of the race, with his helmet reportedly flying off in the crash. Medical staff rushed to the site and Hegarty died while being transported to a hospital.
A veteran of the road racing, including at the Isle of Man TT, where he was named the top privateer in 2016, Hegarty was competing in his second Macau Grand Prix. Hegarty is also the second member of the Top Gun Honda racing team to die in a race this year; teammate Gavin Lupton succumbed to injuries at the Ulster Grand Prix in August. Lupton was 37.
