First Look: The new CCM Street Moto and Street Moto R
Lightweight thumpers are a dying breed, and more’s the pity. There’s nothing quite like wringing the neck of a punchy mid-sized single with gobs of torque on hand, but very few marques still produce bikes like these. Luckily there are boutique manufacturers like CCM Motorcycles to carry the torch.
We’re big fans of CCM’s philosophy. All of their bikes use the same ‘Spitfire’ platform, which combines a twin-spar chromoly trellis frame with a liquid-cooled 600 cc single-cylinder engine. From there, each CCM model is specced and dressed differently, drawing inspiration from classic roadsters, bobbers, scramblers, and trackers.
The brand new CCM Street Moto adds supermotos to that list. Unveiled today, it’s pitched as a rider’s bike, tailored for enthusiastic street shenanigans. The vibe is classic supermoto fare, combining the ergonomics of a scrambler with 17? hoops, road-focussed rubber, and a lightweight build. CCM’s tried-and-true powerplant sits at the center of it, pushing out 55 hp, with 50 Nm of torque peaking at 5,500 rpm. That’s more than enough to launch the 141-kilo [310.9 lbs] Street Moto into the stratosphere.
The Street Moto borrows its subframe and carbon fiber bodywork from the CCM Tracker. Both are good-looking machines?closer to the custom bikes we regularly fawn over here than your garden variety factory machine. A svelte tank and flat track-style tail section float over the TIG-welded trelli...
