Kawasaki is recalling the 2018 Ninja H2 SX SE because of a risk of the centerstand not staying retracted and potentially touching the ground while riding. The recall affects the SE model, which comes standard with the stand, as well as on kits for the non-SE Ninja H2 SX. The recall campaign applies to 385 motorcycles and five kits in the U.S.
 

 
According to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the mounting pin may shift or detach from the left side of the centerstand due to improper welding. A displaced pin may cause the stand’s spring to fall off. Without the spring, the centerstand may not stay retracted and can drag along the ground when riding, increasing the risk of a crash. The problem was first encountered in Japan in April 2018, with a report of a centerstand mounting pin breaking off. A second incident, also from the Japanese market, was reported in June. The first report from outside Japan came in July, from Europe. Later that month, a Kawasaki investigation determined the fault was caused by hydrogen embrittlement. In August, Kawasaki determined this was caused by improper welding.
Kawasaki dealers will replace the left centerstand bracket on recalled motorcycles and kits.
